With the change in my career, I have been afforded time that I haven't had for the past several years. It is very nice to know that I have each weekend off and that I can return to hunting and cycling, which in the past I just didn't have time to do right. This year I have been out deer hunting with my muzzleloader 4 times, and, with the exception of one trip, I had other hunters sit down within 60 yards of me (and once I even had two guys sit down 50 yds to my left and 50 yds to my right just before dark when the deer should be coming out to the field). I have been hunting public land and I am getting pretty sick of it. Each day I did have the best view because I put my ladder stand up before the season in a good spot. My new employer's property consists of over 4000 acres and they allow hunting to employees. So after work on Wednesday, I set up a hang-on stand in about the only tree I could find without a stand already on it. Friday morning I went out with my bow to try out the new spot. I did have another hunter show up right at dawn and sit in their stand about 40 yds away, but aside from the fact that they showed up a little late, they had very little impact on my hunt. After about 3.5 hours in the stand I had a group of 5 deer walk out in front of me, one doe was 15 yds broadside to me - I let an arrow fly and missed worse than I ever have in my life, right over her back. Oh well, I have plenty of time left and hopefully can redeem that shot. Here is a pic of me in my stand and the the view of the field from my muzzleloader stand.
