Beautiful Sunday

I got up early and headed down to our property this morning. Last night, I broke down the picnic table that I had built on Saturday and loaded it and all my tools up. I awoke to temps in the 20s, but with highs forcasted in the upper 40s and sunny I knew that I would have a good day. I arrived at Walnut Creek Ranch and immediatley upon parking headed down to the creek, which you can hear from our camp. The water rushing just has a great soothing sound. Here is a pic of the creek today:
I then put together the picnic table, near the firepit.
I then headed down to my biggest task of the day, clearing the Creek Trail. I first started with the weed eater with the brush attachment and cleared all the brush, then with the leaf rake to clear the debris. After this I decided to break for lunch and a hike around the property.

While getting ready to leave, I noticed our first Spring migrant, I saw a E. Pheobe bopping through the trees. It was good to see a flycatcher again. I then headed to the duck's bill portion of our property, I measured the gorge that cuts it off because I need to build a bridge for access and decided that it is too much right now and it is going to be my fall project. I now realize that I need to build two bridges, one at least 40 feet. I want to do this with Jenn, so I will wait for her to get back and the leaves to fall to begin that task. On my way back to the truck I kicked up 3 wood ducks, I caught one male and one female in my binocs, but didn't get the other. This energized me to put up my remaining duck box. I got back to camp, loaded my cart and hauled everything 1/2 mile to the strip pit. The north end of our property is filled w/ thorns and after fighting through them, putting on my waders and slogging through some serious muck, I got my 2nd duck box up. I headed back to camp to start cutting firewood.

A large hackberry had fallen across the trail were I just cut the new trail, I decided that it would be my target for camp firewood. I ended up cutting up about 1/2 of the tree and splitting the wood on the spot (by hand w/ a maul). I filled up two carts full of split wood and hauled it with my cart by hand (uphill) to the camp.
